The Local Advisory Committee (LAC) plays an important role in the Kern New Beginnings (KNB) project by helping evaluate and recommend services, strategies, and goals that address the needs and barriers experienced by justice-involved individuals. This includes individuals eligible under Proposition 47 who may also qualify under the newly passed Proposition 36.
The purpose of the Kern New Beginnings Program (KNB) is to expand access to Substance Use Disorder (SUD) and Mental Health (MH) treatment for justice-involved individuals as an alternative to a felony conviction for certain drug-related offenses. The program aims to reduce recidivism, support recovery, and connect high-risk individuals to available community-based services and supports.
